Announcement
Dear UIUC composers and theorists,
Welcome! Alumni and current students and faculty of the UIUC composition-theory division should already know what GNM (Group for New Music) is, but this year we have many new friends joining us who might not.
GNM is a Registered Student Organization (RSO) of UIUC. Basically, GNM is a loosely formed group. In the past, the main task of GNM was to help composition students get funding from school for travel expenses. Now we want to offer more opportunities for our members to present themselves to the public beyond the UIUC campus to the rest of the world. That's one reason this website has been established.
The other reason for building this site is to make a stronger connection between each of its members. Although many of us show up everyday in the Music Building, some do their work elsewhere and might not know other students as well. This website offers a great chance for everybody to get to know each other better.
So, what do you need to do?
First of all, most importantly, sign up to receive the RSS feed of this website to receive posts automatically. We plan to post our members' activities here and other important information (such as funding application deadlines), so don't miss out! To do this, click on the two boxes at the top of right column (the boxes under "Subscribe Me").
After signing up for the RSS feed, if you like, you may choose to participate as an author on this website. Or if you prefer you can just keep a low profile, BUT we encourage you to blog along with us! (Everyone wants to be famous, right?)
To become an author, e-mail Ming-ching or Jason and indicate you want to be an author on this website. Once you become an author, you can post anything you want (isn't that nice?). This is especially helpful for those of you without your own website.
If you don't want to be an author but still want your activities to be posted (so that everybody from Kiribati to Nepal can see it!), provide the info to any administrator or author and tell him or her to post it for you.
Also:
1. If you have any idea how to improve this site (such as adding links to some awesome websites), please tell us.
2. If you want your name to show up in our "Members" list on the page, please let us know. You can also provide the email address or URL. We will hyperlink your name to that email/website.
3. There is a group on Facebook called UIUC Composers, if you're a UIUC composer but you're not in UIUC Composers, you're welcome to join the group. Actually there is a link to the group at "link" section at the right column on this page. Just click it! If you need somebody to invite you, ask an administrator to invite you, so far we have 15 administrators (crazy!). Actually the group has been idle for a while, so maybe we can think about doing something with it. Any suggestions?
4. By the way, who are the members of GNM? If you've paid the dues this semester, then you ARE a member. If you have not paid the dues, you are...errr...still a member. Does anyone know how much the dues are? Treasurer? More on this later.
That's it! Enjoy life at UIUC!
